Orientation Day Two

Food for Thought started off our cloudy Friday morning with another round of teambuilding exercises. Then the youth took a preliminary survey, intended to assess how much they knew on a variety of topics. This is just one tool we will use to help shape the curriculum and ultimately, to assess how much was learned during the course of the upcoming five weeks.

After lunch, Miss Yvonne from Food for Real came in to talk about healthy eating and why its important. As the youth listened with rapt attention (Miss Yvonne says, "If you want to keep an audience attentive, bring food!") to her explanation of the importance of being educated about food.

"Whats so special about this yogurt?" she asked the youth, to which one young man responded "its full of good bacteria!" Not only that, Miss Yvonne explained, but this yogurt is made from the milk of happy cows.
She used the preparation
of a healthy yogurt parfait snack as a forum to teach all about the process of good healthy community supportive food, and why its important, especially to young people.

As you can see, this healthy snack was most definitely a hit!

Check back next week for updates on healthy food and more details about the three farms our groups will be working at!
